Daddy (After discovering Lukes new teeth): Got some new teeth? When did you get them Luke?
Luke: (Obviously hearing where rather than When): Tesco’s!!!!!!!
So there you have it, if you ever need new teeth, just go to tesco’s! lol

Whats been happening in the Derner household?
Well Jacks started nursery in a morning. He loves it, but STILL hasnt stopped crying when I leave him in a morning. I think its more for my benefit than actually not liking school. He’s happy enough once Ive left him for a couple of minutes and is really excited and tells me what he’s been up to when I pick him up. He’s been invited to a couple of party’s too so Im hoping he starts to settle soon.
I think one of the problems is the noise levels, its really loud in there (As its bound to be with lots of pre school kids running round) and he doesnt cope well when theres lots of background noise. Its because of his glue ear I think. Which brings me nicely onto the next update.
I took him for a hearing test last week and the Doctor finally cottoned onto the fact that Jacks not actually hearing the noises during the tests half the time, he’s just reacting in the way he’s expected to. He does a test where he has some spinning top shaped discs and he has to tap them against a machine and then when he hears the noise he puts the disc in a box. Ive said the last few times that he’s just putting the disc in the box because he knows thats whats expected of him, not because he can hear the noise every time.
They’ve tried a different test on him this time and its proven how low his hearing is. The doctor has decided to send him for a consultation with the Ear nose and throat surgeon to see about having gromits fitted. Im hoping that this does the trick and that it makes things easier for him. His speech has caught up a lot but I still feel that his hearing affects his day to day life. Especially now in nursery as he cant always hear what his teachers are saying to him and when we visit places like play centres he is a bit overwhelmed at first because of the amount of noise. I dont think people realise how much Glue ear can affect kids and thier behaviour, and dont realise how much it can slow thier development down.
Luke has started pre school, I had nightmares about him screaming the place down when I left him BUT he’s been the complete opposite. He’s settled in really well. He loves going to big boy school and wanders off as soon as we get in there to play and doesnt bat an eyelid when I tell him Im going. I honestly think its because he goes with children he’s grown up going to groups with and its in the same room as all the playgroups we go to with the same staff. He’s picking things up quickly like where to hang his coat and what to do with his coat tag etc. Basically Im really proud of the way he’s coped. After expecting the worst possible scenario he’s made us proud! He’s definately getting more independant. Its only 2 hours a week but its definately worth taking him!
In other news I’ve got a new job. After five years of working on and off at the cricket club Ive been offered another job at a local pub closer to home for more money with gaurenteed hours and they are a bit more sociable hours too. Im not getting in at 1 and 2 o clock in the morning and Im working four nights a week instead of 5. Its early days yet but Im enjoying it. I miss the club though, but more for the people I work with and the regular customers than the work itself. Its different I suppose waitressing but I’ll get used to it in time.
Karls still working hard. He’s bought a comressor recently and has started respraying bits and bobs for people and seems to be enjoying himself. The window tinting side of things has slowed down considerably this year, but thats down to the credit crunch I think. Everyone we know with thier own businesses has said the same thing. People just cant afford to spend money on luxarys for thier cars!
Thats about it I think. Not much been happening, we’re all getting used to things changing so havent really had the time to do much else!
Here’s some recent photo’s

As we’re both off this week we decided to take the kids to Drayton Manor Park for the day so we could have a look at Thomas Lnd and take the kids to see the animals.
Even though it was chucking it down we enjoyed every minute! The kids were amazed by all the thomas themed rides and Luke had a really close encounter with a tiger! They even managed to get me on a rollercoaster! lol (Ok, so it was a kids one, but it still went really fast! lol)
- All Covered up and ready for the rain!
- Luke meets a tiger!
They do an offer during the week in term time meaning that toddlers and a parent get in for £14, so it cost us £28 for all four of us to go. Normally the tickets cost £23 each for an adult so it was a bargain!!!!!!!
Would totally recommend the place to anyone who has thomas mad kids like us. we all really enjoyed our day!
Highlights were the tourblesome trucks rollercoaster, the animals, the boat ride in thomas land, and the Pirates adventure (A boat ride through different pirate scenes with a bit of a flume and water splash, I got soaked and had to walk back to the car with a wet through bum!)

One of the boys favourite films at the minute is the Disney version of Robin Hood. Luckily we live near to Edwinstowe (Where the major Oak is, Robin Hoods “Home”) It takes us about 30 minutes or so from here to get there and this last week it was the annual robin hood festival.
If anyone lives near Nottinghamshire they should definitely try and get to this event with Kids. Its Brilliant!!!!
The boys absolutely loved it, we watched puppets, spent hours looking for Robin Hood (only to run away as soon as we saw him), bought the obligatory Robin Hood Hats, had a picnic in the restaurant at the visitors centre, watched musicians wandering round performing and Jack even had a run in with a dragon! (I think this was the highlight of the day!) We unfortunately missed the jousting display as were too busy trying to carry all the money Jack had pinched from the bank (Don’t think he quite got the whole idea as he even pretended to get it out the hole in the wall lol)
The boys went dressed up, Jack has a peter pan outfit that we adapted slightly and made him look like Robin Hood, and Luke went as Robin Hoods Pirate friend!
We had a brilliant day. Parking was a bit of a nightmare as the parking stewards didnt seem to know exactly what to do with such a huge amount of cars, but other than that we had a brilliant time. If anyone is considering going next year then I would recommend giving yourself the full day there and taking a picnic!
Heres the info for this years festival so you can see the sorts of things going on.

Sorry havent posted for a while. To be honest life in the Derner household has been pretty boring. Im now back at work and the kids have been snotty so we’ve not really done much.
Jacks discovered chrismtas this year with a bang. Everything is, “Santan this, santan that……” We’re hoping to take him to see santa this weekend. I cant wait to see his face when we go see him!
Im also currently “aquiring” a copy of the snowman by raymond briggs.
We’re hopefully picking Molly up this weekend. She’s our Springador Puppy, I’ll try and post some more up to date pictures as soon as I have them. She will be 8 weeks old on sunday and is gorgeous!

That Monkey has suddenly bcome a permanant fixture in everything Jack does.
He’s been promoted from nighttime cuddletoy, to constant companion. But today I have decided that enough is enough, Monkey stinks!!!!!!!!!
He smells so bad it unreal,
so this morning he has had not one, but two baths…
The first bath was shared with Jack and Luke (Although the colour of the water afterwards meant that Jack and Luke had to have another bath!)
Monkey got scrubbed, had his face washed, armpits scrubbed and even had the honour of having his teeth brushed with jacks special “oooogre” (shrek) toothpaste! (Although monkeys can only use the magical invisible type of it)
He was washed and scrubbed with Jacks new Noddy Flannel and had a thoroughly nice time I think. We even showed him what a super fast roary the racing car was was like. For those of you not up to date on the latest bathtime habits, a superfast roary wash is the only way we can pin Jack down to give him a good wash without having to endure a paddy halfway through. Basically its what it says on the tin. A very fast scrub to get rid of all the racing dirt that Jacks picked up through the day. He gets to play a game, and Mummy and Daddy have the satisfaction of knowing that Jack doesnt look like he’s been playing in mud all day!
Once he had finished in that bath, it was time for him to be transfered to the magic monkey washer (Washing machine to you and me). I dont think Jack was overly keen on him going in there and kept pointing to his head saying monkey hurt, but once mummy explained that monkeys like washing machines he seemed ok.
So monkey is now all clean and sparkly and is just finishing on his second fast spin cycle. Jack however is wailing because he’s had to have a nap without monkey.
Anyone know where we can get a spare? lol
Here is the end result!
We’ve just had to rummage around old outfits to find something in his size but I think you will agree that he looks much better after his morning of pampering!
