We have an Escape artist….

Ive just gone upstairs to find out why, even though they are supposed to be having quiet time in their rooms, my ceiling is shaking more than krakatoa on a bad day! The kids are squealing their heads off, there’s a trail of toys along the landing from where Luke has thrown them over his gate to wind up mummy. But both boys are now playing with their cars and garage in Luke’s room.

Whats wrong with this? I hear you say.

Nothing, apart from the fact that half an hour ago I put Jack in his room to play with his crayons. We suspected a while ago that he could open the gate to his bedroom door, but after a couple of months of him only opening it when we were there we didn’t think he’d twigged on that he could escape.

I have never seen him move so fast in my entire life! He was out of Luke’s room and back into his quicker than we could whistle the theme from the great escape!

He’s now back in his bedroom looking very sheepish after being told that he mustn’t wander round and come out of his room unless Mummy or Daddy tells him he can.

Im now wondering how long it will be before he’s in our room in the middle of the night???????

Making Christmas decorations

This morning we have been making christmas decorations from salt dough. Last night we all went on a hunt for christmassy cookie cutters and ended up getting some little ones from morrisons.

I used this recipe:

http://crafts.kaboose.com/saltdoughgifttoppers.html

What you’ll need:

  • ½ cup salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup water
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie sheet
  • Toothpick
  • Miniature cookie cutters: star and Christmas tree
  • Acrylic paints: green, yellow, and various colors of your choice for tree ornaments
  • Glitter glue or glitter paint
  • ribbon
  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.
  2. Mix together, salt, flour, and water until dough is formed.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until the mixture is elastic and smooth. If dough is too sticky, sprinkle with flour, continue to do so until stickiness is gone. Do not add too much flour, this will dry out the dough and will cause it to crack before you get a chance to bake it.
  4. Roll out the dough to about ¼” thick with a rolling pin that has been dusted with flour.
  5. Use cookie cutters to cut out as many trees and stars as you want.
  6. Use a toothpick to make a hole toward the top of the shape. Poke the toothpick into the shape, then holding toothpick straight up and down, make a circular motion as if you were stirring something. Keep circling until the hole is the size you want.
  7. Place all shapes onto an ungreased cookie sheet and place into the preheated oven.
  8. Bake for 2 hours.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
  10. Paint the trees green and the stars yellow.
  11. Use the handle end of the paint brush to dot on ornaments by dipping into paint then dotting onto ornament.
  12. When paint is dry, use glitter glue (we used green) or glitter paint (we used gold) to put a sparkling cover coat on your ornaments.
  13. When dry, thread ribbon through hole and tie in a knot in the back.
  14. Tie onto package.

Tips:

  • If your toppers are large enough, you can make two holes in each so that you can thread ribbon through like a button, only showing a small amount of ribbon on the front.
  • These make adorable pins to wear to school. Just don’t make a hole. Glue a pin back to the back of the completed ornament instead.
  • Uncooked salt dough doesn’t keep well, so only make enough dough for the ornaments you are going to make. If you are only making a few toppers, halve the ingredients above. The listed amounts will make enough ornaments for a classroom of 20.

This morning I made the dough up and helped the kids to cut them all out. The plan later on is to decorate them! Should be ermmmm

Messy????

We had a brilliant time doing it! Luke wasn’t too keen on the taste though lol. as per usual when we’re doing anything the first thing he does is sticks it in his mouth!!!!!!!!

I’ll update later and tell you how we got on.

Fun in the Sun….

The weathers a bit better now thank god! we spent most of yesterday afternoon on my mum and dads back garden. The kids had the playhouse, Jacks JCB and various other toys out. We had a teaparty in the playhouse and Jack discovered that he likes sparkling water (Urgh!)

It was a nice afternoon actually, My Mum was virtually in the playhouse with him at one point lol. Luke had a new hat ( that actually stopped on for once!) and they were as happy as larry running round outside.

Todays plans arent very strenuous… a wander to Macarthur glen with the possibility of going to LSOM later on with Azz and Josh.

Ive just been bitten by something nasty on my leg. Two big bites, god knows what it is, cant find anything, but I also cant find the bloody sting zapper thing I bought a while ago!  Its sod’s law isnt it? You plan for stuff like this, then when it actually happens you cant find the bloody stuff you bought “just incase” I bet your bottom doller that as soon as it starts to feel back to normal I find it!!!!!!
